…How come it take more air miles than actual miles to fly somewhere?
I had been very excited because I gained 3000 air miles upon getting approved for my Alaska Air carriers Visa charge card, but lately was very disappointed to discover it requires nearly 30,000 air miles to visit Hawaii. Can you explain that? Why give them a call “miles” whatsoever? I had been told “earn miles for each dollar spent.” Must have known it had been too good to be real. Does anybody understand how they calculate the number of “air miles” it requires to get at locations? Can there be a formula or some conversion between miles and air miles I’m not sure about?
In the beginning you can only earn frequent flier “miles” for flying with an air travel. It had been only later they began offering different ways to earn “miles”. i.e. charge cards.
Each air travel has different rules about the best way to redeem miles you have gained and using them as “free” plane tickets.

But simply knowing the amount of miles needed to obtain a “free” flight isn’t enough.
