Which credit card should I get?
I have a credit card currently with a $3000 limit and no balance but I wanted to close that account because they changed the terms and conditions, making it a higher interest rate, high annual fee, and you have to pay a fee to pay your bill online. I know that it is bad to close an account unless you have another account open, so I was trying to find what would be the best one to replace it. I was looking into Chase Freedom, Chase Slate, or the Citi Platinum Select Card. I always get offers from Discover but not too many places take Discover and I don’t spend enough to care about cash back. If anyone could recommend one card over the other that would be appreciated. All three of those cards have 0% intro rate and around 12-20% after the 12 months which seems pretty standard among all cards. If they seem the same, how do people decide which to get? Thanks in advance!
Call your current card and ask them to remove the annual fee.
They just might.
You have no balance – so interest rates won’t affect you.
If you pay in full each month – the interest rate could be 99% – it would never affect you.
Closing a card can hurt your rating.
It will delete part of your “length of credit histor” if its your oldest card.
It will also reduce the overall available limits on all your cards.
Creditors like to see unued cash – shows credit worthiness.
Don’t pay your bill online at their website.
Go to your bank where you have your checking account and use their free
online bill pay system – sign up for it today.
Every bank has this for free – call your bank if you don’t find it on the website.
I pay all my bills with online bill pay – not the credit card sites.
Again, call them – ask them to removed the annual fee.
Citi did the same thing to me – they thought they would actually charge me $60 annual fee.
I called – it was removed – not sure for how many years though.
