Is there a difference between Mastercard and Visa when making online payments?
I want to make an online payment for a tuition bill, but the website seems to only list Mastercard, American Express, and Discover as options on the the list. I only have Visa Debit. If I choose the Mastercard option and use my Visa card anyway, will it still work?
If there is no option for Visa, probably not. Mastercard and Visa are generally treated the same, so I’m surprised the online options do not include Visa. A debit card is different- different fee structure and less protection for you in case of fraudulent charges, so many businesses will not accept debit cards. The only reason I can think of that the online service would not accept regular Visa is if they are a large institution that has somehow worked out a deal with Mastercard.
